Laura Booker-Anderson Named Daytona State Volleyball Coach
Former ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ assistant led Falcons as interim coach during the 2021 spring season
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (April 15, 2021) – ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ has officially named Laura Booker-Anderson its new head volleyball coach after the former ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ assistant guided the Falcons to a 15-8 record as interim coach during the 2021 spring season. Booker-Anderson has been with the program since its inception in 2013, helping them win 156 matches, post four 20-win seasons and make six appearances in the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Tournament.
“I am beyond grateful to ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ for the opportunity to lead the Falcon
women’s volleyball program, said Booker-Anderson. “Over the last seven seasons I
was fortunate to be able to coach alongside and learn from Laura Stegall, my mentor
and one of the best coaches in the business, and I am confident that my time working
as
an assistant coach in the program has fully prepared me to step into this new role
as head coach.
After being named interim head coach last September, Booker-Anderson led the Falcons to a runner-up finish in the Mid-Florida Conference and a spot in the regional tournament during the COVID-delayed spring season. The Falcons, who had just one returning starter from 2019, were ranked as high as No. 2 in the region and No. 6 in the nation, their highest ranking in the national poll since 2014 when they also reached No. 6.
Daytona State had a school-record six players make this year’s Mid-Florida All-Conference Team, including four first team selections, and two of those, freshmen Derionah Abner and Sarah Stratton, went on to earn All-State/All-Region honors.
Booker-Anderson’s coaching career extends beyond Daytona State as well. She’s also held positions with several elite travel programs in Indiana and Florida, a list that includes Pineapple Sport ONE Volleyball Club in Fort Wayne, along with DME Volleyball Academy and Florida Elite Volleyball Club.
Booker-Anderson graduated from Indiana Tech in 2009 following an outstanding four-year career as a setter. She was a three-time NAIA Academic All-American (2006-08) for the Warriors, a First Team All-Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference selection (2008), and a four-time All-Conference/All-National Champion of Character (2005-2008). She was selected as Indiana Tech’s MVP as a senior in 2008 when she led the Warriors to a 33-5 record, the WHAC championship and the team’s first NAIA National Tournament appearance. That same year, she was honored as Indiana Tech’s Hyashi Student-Athlete of the Year.
At the time of her graduation, Booker-Anderson was the program’s career assist leader and still holds the top spot in service aces. In 2019, she and her teammates from the historic 2008 season were inducted as a group into the Indiana Tech Athletics Hall of Fame.
In addition to being a team captain at Indiana Tech, Booker-Anderson recorded a 3.99 GPA and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Therapy. In 2016, she completed her Master of Coaching and Athletic Administration degree with a 4.0 GPA from Concordia University Irvine.
“The Daytona State volleyball program has a rich history of producing successful women who excel, not only on the court, but also in the classroom and community,â€ said Booker-Anderson. “I hope to continue that tradition of excellence with all the future Falcons who come through our program. ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ is truly a special community. It has been a joy to be a part of the Falcon family thus far and I look forward to all the adventures that lie ahead in my new role as head women’s volleyball coach.â€
